I seem to find myself regularly searching for new skills and tools for my life and spiritual practice. Sometimes these searches lead to dead ends and at other times, I find new ways to live happier, healthier and more productive. Over the last year or so, I have been sticking my toe in the deep waters of essential oils and aromatherapy. Not just because it smells good and is fascinating, but because I have been able to experience first hand many benefits of using certain oils to aid my health and spirituality.
I started with just a few specific oils to use for anointing candles in my spell work. Then I branched out into a few blends for specific purposes. A headache blend here, an energizing blend there… I was quickly staring to see and feel the benefits of using these products.
A few days ago, I picked up a book at my local metaphysical shop, The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy by Valarie Worwood. Holy cow, did this one book blow the doors off of what I was doing. Part of me bought the book as a general reference so that I could find more uses for the oils that I had. Another part of me bought it so that I could find the excuse, umm…I mean reason, to buy a collection of oils.
The vast number of recipes and simple concoctions in this book showed me that there is so much more that I can do with a few little bottles of plant extract than I thought. Got a headache? Massage a little peppermint and lavender oil around your temples. Sore throat? Chamomile, thyme and lemon. Hate washing the dishes? Add some bergamot and lemon to your detergent and get a mental and emotional boost when you bust the suds!
I have a host of ideas that I am planning to use these oils for as soon as they arrive. Massage oils, candle blessings, energetic boosts for the house, and so much more. Wish me luck and if you don’t hear from me after I receive my package of oils, know that I at least disappeared into a wonderfully smelling bliss!
